CIRIA
Have knowledge on property flood resilience? Want to participate in a workshop?

Thu 31st August 2017, TBC, Central Belfast

CIRIA is managing a project to develop a Code of Practice and guidance for property flood resilience. The technical work on the Code of Practice (CoP) is being delivered by a project team led by BRE and the project is funded by Aviva, the Environment Agency, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and the Department for Infrastructure, Northern Ireland.

Property flood resilience (PFR) is an important part of our response to managing flood risk. The CoP and consolidated guidance will provide a robust and standardised approach for the delivery and management of PFR. The project outputs will improve confidence in PFR and subsequent take–up as they will be used by property owners, occupiers, managers, the insurance industry and those involved in delivering PFR.

A survey has been developed to inform the development of the CoP and help understand how PFR is being delivered. The survey can be found here – if you haven’t completed it the project team would appreciate your input.

CIRIA is also running a series of workshops, and one is being planned for central Belfast on 31 August 2017. The objectives of the proposed workshop are to:

  • Present initial learning from the project’s scoping study and engagement activities
  • Identify how barriers can be overcome in the UK by the delivery of the CoP and guidance
  • Present and obtain feedback on the overall framework for delivering PFR
  • Present and obtain feedback on the contents and structure for the Code of Practice and associated guidance documents

If you or a relevant colleague/contact is familiar with local flood risk and particularly PFR in terms of the assessment, planning, specification, design and installation of relevant measures we would welcome you to express an interest in attending the workshop.

Please contact Giuseppe Picciariello at CIRIA (Giuseppe.Picciariello@ciria.org) briefly outlining your interest and we’ll see what we can do to accommodate you in the workshop.

If you have any other queries, or comments please contact Paul Shaffer at CIRIA (paul.shaffer@ciria.org).
