Unlocking Local Action: Energising Your Community

Mon 1st February 2021 - Mon 1st February 2021, Online

Join us for an interactive discussion with Grant Peisley, Director, Community Energy Wales and Datblygiadau Egni Gwledig (DEG), who shares the wider benefits of community energy schemes, from generating new community funds to learning opportunities to boosting employment.

Grant Peisley is a social entrepreneur, localism practitioner and sustainable communities consultant. He is a Founding Director of Datblygiadau Egni Gwledig (DEG) who has helped over 60 community groups on energy projects. Projects such as renewable energy generation, sharing that energy with local people and making community buildings and local people’s homes more energy efficient. Grant is also a director of Community Energy Wales, YnNi Teg, YnNi Newydd, YnNi Lleu and YnNi Llyn.

This is part of our Unlocking Local Action series of events.

Community is the lens so often left out of the environmental discussion, but it’s vital in implementing lasting solutions. Rather than conceiving a “master” climate action plan at arm’s length, people in many areas are co–creating local plans and low–carbon initiatives. In this series of short talks, we hear from guest speakers about how they engage the broader community in their work and compare and contrast the different ways of bringing more people together.

This session on Energising Your Community will focus on the wider benefits of community energy schemes, from generating new community funds to learning opportunities to boosting employment. It will run for approximately 30 minutes. Our speaker will talk for around 10 minutes about their specific approach to engaging the community, and this will be followed by an opportunity to join in a live Q&A.
