Current Opportunities

The following would be best suited to postgraduate placements or dissertation students:

Project 1

Recent risk assessments show that Northern Ireland needs to adapt to a changing climate. However, knowledge is still limited as to how recent impacts, such as extreme weather events, have affected different sectors. A series of projects will use desk based research, surveys/semi–structured interviews/focus groups to gain insights into how sectors have been affected and how they are responding. Projects are available assessing any one of the following:

People and the Built Environment

Natural Environment and Rural Economy

Results will support further work and be fed into policy development.

Project 2 – Future–proofing Resilient Buildings

As we begin to experience the impacts of a changing climate, we must recognise how this will impact how buildings perform, where they are located and how they are constructed. To future proof our built environment, we must reconsider how we design, construct, upgrade and occupy new and existing buildings. Projects will  undertake desk based research and possibly semi–structured interviews considering:

  • How climate change is currently impacting buildings on the island of Ireland
  • Availability and relevance of resources and tools to support climate change adaptation in buildings
  • Existing awareness and skills of building designers

Results will be disseminated to the construction sector and will be fed into policy development.

If you are interested in gaining climate change adaptation experience, please send a CV for consideration to:
